Recorded from a live broadcast in the Blue Room at the Hotel Lincoln in New York City.

‘In the Mood’ was based on ‘Tar Paper Stomp’ by Wingy Malone which he first recorded in 1930.  However, Malone didn’t copyright the song until 1941 so other musicians were free to ‘borrow’ from his composition at will. Joe Garland’s arrangement of ‘In the Mood’ was sold to Artie Shaw in 1938, but Shaw chose not to record it because the original arrangement was too long, but Shaw did perform it in concert. Then the song was sold to Glen Miller in 1939, whose arrangement was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame after becoming the best-selling swing instrumental.
